Wine information:
The quality of the wines from the Malvedos vineyard is such that in Vintage declarations these wines provide the main structure for Graham’s classic Vintage Ports. In most of the interim years, the wines from Malvedos will merit bottling as a single estate, or ‘single quinta’ Vintage Port – from a single harvest. Graham’s Malvedos Vintage Ports admirably show the Graham’s house style with their expressive floral characteristics, opulent black berry fruit flavours and racy flair. They are usually more approachable when young than classic Vintage Ports and therefore make an excellent alternative to the latter. Gorgeous bouquet redolent of chocolate, mint
and spice. Luxurious and lusty palate, showing cassis and layers of blackcurrant and black plum. Big and bold but in a very polished, attractive manner.Graham’s Quinta dos Malvedos Vintage Port is a fabulous way to end a lunch or dinner. It pairs wonderfully with chocolate desserts, such as chocolate mousse, but it can also be enjoyed on its own, providing a memorable moment in the company of good friends. Peter Symington, responsible with his son Charles for the vineyards and wine making, has been made ‘Fortified Wine Maker of the Year’ an extraordinary 6 times by the ‘Wine Challenge’. Nobody else has won this important award more than once. In 2003, his
son Charles won the same award. "Deep purple core with wide, fading rim. Ripe plum dominates the nose with hints of prune and mint. Second wave of aromas brings chocolate, vanilla and some sweet oak. Full and soft in themouth yet still bright acidity. Compact and intense with fruit flavours bursting to show themselves. Great structure and balance. Firm tannins and long, persistent finish. Loads of potential to develop." IWSC 2008.
