Notes - The Leyrat estate is renowned for the exceptional quality of the Cognac produced from its vineyard. This Pineau des Charentes, which is grape juice fortified with Cognac spirit, is unusual in that is a very old reserve and, due to prolonged aging, develops very different characteristics to young Pineaus. The nose is dense with rich honey and fig flavours which develop to the ‘rancio’ characteristic of old pineau. The palate is rich and full with the density already perceptible on the nose. Very Old white Pineau des Charentes must be aged for a minimum of 10 years in oak barrels. The elegance of an old White Pineau des Charntes is a perfect match for foie gras and blue cheese (Roquefort, Bleu d’Auvergne). It is also a fine companion for sea bass, scallops, mussels and other fine fish.
