Notes - Quinta do Vale Meao is now at forefront of the wine revolution in the Douro. 270 hectares of land was bought by Dona Antonia Adelaide Ferreira in 1877 which have have remained in the family to this day, it is currently owned by Francisco Olazabal the former president of Ferreira. Indeed, the bulk of the legendary Barca Velho was made from grapes from this Quinta. Francisco decided to branch out on his own in 1998 when he left Ferreira, He is ably assisted by his son Francisco. The old cellars and winery have been modernised whilst the original granite lagares have been retained. There is Touriga Nacional, Tinta Rorizm TOuriga Francesca, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barocca and Tinto Cao planted and the 62 hectare estate.
