Notes - Dow’s finest vineyard, acquired and planted by the firm in 1980, is situated in perhaps the most favourable location in the Upper Douro. This quinta, classified ‘A’ grade, forms the core of Dow’s famed Vintage Ports. In ‘non-declared’ years, the quinta produces wines of consistently high quality, which are selected and bottled as Dow’s Quinta do Bomfim. These wines are treated in all respects as Vintage Port and therefore should be stored lying down and decanted before serving. Quinta do Bomfim wines are normally ready to drink from about its tenth year but will also benefit by keeping for many more years. The Quinta do Bomfim 1996 follows the classic Dow style, smooth and deeply flavoured, with an intense nose of spices, violets and red fruits. On the palate,
tannins balance the fruit giving a firm structure, and with a long complex finish. Gold Medal Winner at the International Wine Challenge 2005 - “The nose is restrained blend of raisins, ripe blackberries, spice and earth. The palate has a fine, full, mouth coating texture, its sun-warmed blueberry and prune flesh supported by firm tannins. Lively acidity and notes of toast parade
across the lengthy finish.” Wine International, October 2005.
