Wine information:
The commune of Rully is located in the Cote Chalonnaise sub-region of Burgundy and borders the appellations of Bouzeron to the west and Mercurey to the south. The domaine was founded in 1954 by Lucien Ponsot, Jean-Baptiste's grandfather. Jean-Baptiste took over the running of the domaine from his father, Bernard, in 2000 at the relatively young age of 20 years old. Since he took over, the talented Jean-Baptiste, has been developing a loyal following and a solid reputation for producing some of the best wines that Rully have to offer. A quarter of the production continues to be sold off to the négoce but such is the demand for these stylish, fruity reds and whites, coupled with Jean-Baptiste’s own winemaking ambitions, that this proportion is bound to diminish. The soil is worked throughout the vegetative cycle and no herbicides are used. Yields are controlled by various measures and vineyard health is maintained by severe debudding and canopy management (Ieaf removal to allow better photosynthesis). Ponsot's Rully Blanc is a a well structured wine. There are tangy citrus, pear and creamy flavours on the palate which has a core backbone of minerality. It is nicely balanced with a clean, zesty fninsh.
