Wine information: Luis Pato is a top Portuguese wine producer who has almost single-handedly carried the banner for his region against the iron grip of officialdom for the past 20 years. This wine is 90% Baga and 10% of Touriga Nacional and is aged in old used French casks and in some used American oak barrels.

It comes from Luis Pato, a man sometimes known as the king of Bairrada, despite the fact that following a quarrel with the local authorities, none of his wines carry the Barraida DO. Perhaps he should be dubbed the king of Baga, for no-one else exercises such a deft hand with this potentially tricky, think-skinned grape. Here's his entry level Baga, matured in old casks and with a spoonful of Touriga Nacional to add further character.
