Notes - Print Shiraz is the pinnacle of red wine making at Mitchelton. It is made from highly prized parcels of fruit and is the most intense expression of Victorian Shiraz in the Mitchelton style. Print is sourced from the best blocks on the Mitchelton vineyard that are targeted with specific viticultural techniques and are nurtured by hand to achieve optimum quality of fruit. The original print works, upon which each label has been based, are on permanent display at the Mitchelton winery, at Nagambie in Central Victoria. The 2002 is an intense deep purple colour with violet hues suggesting a deeply flavoured wine. There are powerful, hypnotic aromas of brandied cherries, christmas pudding and smokey charcutterie lying beneath delicate aromatics of crème anglais, violet perfume and ripe mulberries. On the palate the wine continues intently with harmony between power of fruit and delicacy of structure. The harmony arises from intense ripe fruits and mouth filling weight deftly harnessed by the chalky tannins and gentle acidity which maintains the palate for a long time after drinking. From Wine Spectator. March 2007, "... Crisp and refined, this one has lively acidity balanced against juicy plum and blackberry flavours, lingering on the open, refined finish" - 90 points, Harvey Steinman.
