Notes - 100% Semillon from old, dry-grown vines in the Barossa Valley. Semillon was one of the first varieties planted by the early European settlers 160 years ago, so that the Barossa is blessed with a heritage of old vines. Half of the wine is fermented in oak barriques, half in tank; matured for 10 months. The name 'Woodcutter's' comes about because Dave Powell, owner and winemaker, spent time as a woodsman in the Torbreck Forest in north-eastern Scotland. Brilliant lemon-gold in colour; the bouquet is complex with honeysuckle and citrus, and a nutty, buttery background; the palate is medium-bodied, dry but ripe, with spicy, flinty flavours.
To quote Dave Powell:' This is the kind of wine I like to drink after a hard day's work in the vineyard.' A wine which can easily be enjoyed for itself, but which makes a superb partner for shellfish and crustaceans, pork dishes, poultry and soft cheeses.
