Wine information:
The Pian delle Vigne Estate is located six kilometers south of Montalcino, above the Val d'Orcia valley, and it was named for the characteristic 19th century train station situated in the property, which is still in use. The vineyards where the grapes are grown to make Pian delle Vigne are mainly south-east facing at an altitude of 130m above sea level. The soil is clay and limestone based with plenty of small stony texture. Brunello di Montalcino is made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes (known in Montalcino as "Brunello"). Rich ruby garnet red colour. A mature, generous, complex nose with ripe aromas of cherries and raspberries, light tobacco notes and pleasant hints of coffee and cocoa powder. The palate is especially mouthfilling and generous with confident, elegant tannins and a long, lingering finish.
