Notes - In 1931 Jean Baptiste Audy expanded his vineyard holding in Pomerol. These included various parlce with clayey soils (which today produce Clos du Clocher) and some parcels that were more gravelly / clay soils on the outskirts of the Pomerol region, it was these parcels that were to become Chateau Monregard La Croix. This small, 1.5 hectare, estate is located very close to Chateau Beareguard and only appromately 9000 bottles are produced per vintage. Chateau Monregard La Croix was formerly considered as the second wine of Clos du Clocher with which it shares winery / technical equipment. However, today, Monregard La Croix has today a separate identity: it comes from a well delimited parcel and produces a different expression of the Pomerol appellation. 100% Merlot. The small size of the vineyards allow all stages in the wine-making process to be done by hand - pruning, leaf removal and leaf-thinning. The grapes are hand-picked and collected in small crates to avoid crushing the berries. The grapes are the double-sorted before and after destemming. The wine is made in concrete vats before racking entirely into oak barrels of which one third is new, one third is second fill and one third in third fill barrels. The wine is bottled roughly 20 months after the harvest. Many of these barrels are ex Clos du Clocher. Chateau Monregard La Croix is a beautiful wine with oodles of plum fruit, a pleasant backbone and firm tannins.
