Mezan Panama Don Jose 1995 Vintage Rum 40%

Wine information: This rum is part of the Mezan range of single cask bottlings. These are all single cask (apart from the Jamaica XO, which is an aged blend) and single vintage bottlings. The idea behind the range is to bring to the consumer the story of the diversity of rum amongst the Caribbean Islands – styles and methods of production, and therefore the rums vary widely. The Mezan rums are also as natural as possible – after the casks have been selected they are not chill-filtered, nor is there any colour, sugar or other flavourings added. Veralo Hermanos was established in 1908 by one Don Jose Varelo Blanco when he founded the Republic of Panama’s first sugar mill. In 1936 his three sons persuaded him to set up a distillery and Hermanos Veralo came into being. Today the third generation are in charge of the home of Ron Abuelo. The distillery is still known by the name Distilleria Don Jose and the company grow all their own yeast cultures in their laboratories resulting in characterful rums. This rum was column distilled and has a little bit of something for everyone!

Rich, complex and lightly pungent on the nose. Fruit to start, then bourbon on the palate, then fruit again coming through in waves. Sweet spice notes very much in evidence, complexity and balance are the hallmarks of this flawless rum.
