Notes - The distillery was founded in 1824 by George Smith and his son, John Gordon Smith; it was the first licensed distillery in Scotland. The current distillery was built in 1858, near where the rivers Avon and Livet meet. In 1880, the Smiths won exclusive rights to the name The Glenlivet, enabling them to protect their trademark against encroachment by other, lesser quality whiskies. After more than 18 years in selected casks this whisky becomes a malt whisky of unmistakable honey-rich maturity and depth. The Glenlivet 18 year old is the winner of 2 gold medals in the International Wine and Spirit Competition. The Glenlivet 18 Year Old plays a bitter-sweet score with a beautifully controlled balance and an unfailing elegance. Oak is the conductor, handing over to fruity or floral aromas in turn. A discreet sherry influence strikes sweet chords in a full tempo. That oak symphony recalls more Beethoven style than Mozart. The perfect after-dinner dram, to sip on a cold and frosty evening by the fireplace, listening to... Beethoven’s ‘Pastoral’ symphony.
