Wine information: Moulin A Vent, Chateau des Jacques is a Beaujolais produced by Louis Jadot. Château des Jacques is probably one of the most prestigious estates in Beaujolais. Maison Louis Jadot bought Château des Jacques in 1996 becoming the first Burgundy house to own a major Beaujolais vineyard. It is situated at the edge of the village of Romanèche-Thorins, in Moulin-à-Vent, between Fleurie and Chenas. The Château has 35 hectares of AOC Moulin-à-Vent vineyard with many of the Gamay vines stretching across the gentle slopes leading up to the famous moulin itself. All picking at Château des Jacques is done by hand. The grapes are left on the vine to ripen for as long as possible and after harvest they are sorted by hand. Following a gentle pressing the must is chilled and held at 10 to 12 degrees for 2 to 5 days, then left to ferment using natural yeasts for 20 to 30 days. The wine is vinified in closed vats with pumping over to break up the cap. After fermentation approximately 40% of the wine is aged in new and second / third fill oak barrels (a third each of Allier, Limousin and Nevers. It is then aged for 6 months.

Tasting Notes: Louis Jadot Moulin à Vent is a full, robust Beaujolais, with a fleshy, almost fat texture and greater longevity than any other Cru of the Beaujolais. The exceptional quality of its structure preserves a fruitiness which becomes mellow with bottle age. It may be enjoyed after cellaring for 10 years or more (in good conditions of temperature and humidity).

Food & Wine match: It will be perfect with red meat or game.

Reviews: "Representing a blend from all five of their sites but favoring Champ de Cour and Carquelin, Château des Jacques's 2009 Moulin-a-Vent smells of black and red raspberry, with heliotrope and lily overtones. With a striking and surprising sense of seamless oily-richness to its sweetly, exuberantly berry-brimmed palate impression, this reveals satisfying low-toned salted meat stock character that persists all the way through a lingering, lip-smacking finish. I suspect this already exceptional value will gain detail and finesse and be worth following for 4-6 years.." Robert Parker, 90-92pts
