Wine information:
From its early days, the House of Perrier-Jouet has made champagne in small quantities with a “limited edition” approach. Like master craftsmen handing down the secrets of their trade from father to son, the seven Chefs de Cave over two centuries have placed quality before quantity. Lying in the heart of the champagne region, Perrier-Jouet owns 65 hectares rating 99.2% on the quality scale (100% being the optimum). This means that each vineyard parcels is classified almost exclusively as Grand Cru. The Chardonnay grape, floral and almost feminine in its elegance and finesse, is the signature variety of Perrier-Jouet’s vineyards, with a strong showing of mature vines (23 years old on average). The holdings take in a homogenous terroir of Chardonnay vineyards some 40 hectares in area within the legendary Grands Crus of Cramant and Avize. Two parcels enjoy almost mythical status - Bourrons Leroy and Bourrons du Midi. The art nouveau bottle with dainty swirls of anemones makes the Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque one of the most instantly recognisable and best known prestige cuvées. Cuvée Belle Époque is a harmonious blend of the most prestigious crus in the Champagne wine-making region. The most important are Cramant and Avize for Chardonnay; Mailly, Verzenay,Verzy and Bouzy for Pinot Noir; and Aÿ and Dizy for Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir. The cuvée is distinguished by a high proportion of Chardonnay from the best slopes in the Côte des Blancs district. The delicacy and elegance of this grape variety give a finesse, a fruitiness and a bouquet that are truly exceptional. It is a pale gold colour, with a magnificent crystalline shine. Intense appearance with lively foam and fine, even bubbles. There are aromas of white fruit and grassy notes on the nose leading to other fruity and biscuity aromas. The rich aromas are complemented a lively attack - fresh and fruity with good acicity and some subtle tangy, spicy notes. There are honeyed (acacia) flavours on the palate with flavours of glazed chestnuts and crystallised fruit linger at the end.
