Notes - The fruit for the Miamba Shiraz is grown mainly in the Miamba vineyard, at the southern end of the Barossa, near Lyndoch. The Miamba Vineyard has a long viticultural history, but when Grant bought it in 1983 it was completely bare. Careful planting and sustainable practices have returned this block to its former glory. The wine was barrel fermented using 50% new American oak,
with the remainder matured for 18 months in one and two year old American and French hogsheads. A small percentage of Hungarian oak was used to add complexity. This opulent wine is dark red in colour with purple hues. The dense fruit is rich with red berry, plum and cherry aromas. The palate is velvety with flavours of black cherry, raspberries and dark chocolate. This is complimented by toasty oak and grainy tannins. This wine has excellent weight, texture and persistence of flavour. This wine is drinking well now, and has a cellaring potential of ten years. "The 2005 Shiraz Miamba saw 50% of the wine barrel-fermented and aged in new American oak, the balance in seasoned French and American oak. It offers up aromas of smoke, cedar, licorice, blueberry, and blackberry. Although it has plenty of flavor, it becomes lean in the finish. Nevertheless, it is a very good value (wine).” - 89 Points, Jay Miller, Wine Advocate, November 2007.
