Wine information:
As the blurb goes, "So many lives, So little Wine ..... Curiosity thrilled the cat..." Flat Roof Manor is an exciting new label to emerge from the premier wine-growing region of Stellenbosch, featuring two white and two red wines made in an accessible easy-drinking style by wine-maker Estelle Lourens. Estelle has also been the wine-maker at
Utikyk since October 2000. The range is named for the 18th Century townhouse at the winery, where Estelle is based, thought to have been designed by eminent Architect Michel Thibault and completed in 1788. The label depicts a not only the flat-topped roof but also a cat that, according to popular local legend, stayed on long after the original owners had moved on. This FRM Pinot Rosé celebrates the Pinot parentage of two varietals. Estelle has blended Pinotage (70%) with Pinot Grigio (30%) to combine depth of flavour with refreshment. The Pinot Grigio grapes received no skin contact while the Pinotage rosé spent two months on the lees to give it its appealing creaminess. The FRM Pinot Rosé has a lively pink-reddish colour. The nose is sweet with aromas of mixed berries. The sweet berry flavours follows through on the dry, fruity palate. A lively zesty wine fit for any joyous occasion. Estelle says, “The Pinotage gives it the spine and substance to last while the Pinot Grigio gives it a bit of frivolous charm. It’s also a very versatile wine that works with seafood as well as white and red meat dishes”.
