Description

Champagne Gosset Grand Rosé is a blend of 12 Grand Cru and Premier Cru villages wines. It has a relatively high percentage of Chardonnay at 55%.

Champagne Gosset is the oldest Champagne House. It was founded in Ay in 1584 and remained in the Gosset family until 1993. The Renaud-Cointreau family, owners of Cognac Frapin, bought Gosset in 1993 and have worked tirelessly to ensure Champagne Gosset remains a family affair. In 2013 they will celebrate 20 years of ownership in which production has risen from 400,000 bottles per year to approximately 1 million bottles.

Gosset is located in the Marne Valley and, although founded in Ay, they have also had premised in Epernay since 2009.The Montagne de Reims and Marne Valley surround Epernay and Aÿ and are known for their chalky soils and hillside vineyards that provide excellent growing conditions for the vines. Champagne Gosset mainly works with growers surrounding Epernay and focuses on Premier and Grand Cru vineyards. In the Champagne region the vineyards are officially classified by a scale known as Echelle des Crus where each vineyard is ranked between 80 and 100 percent. Champagne Gosset’s sourcing policy means that they have a high average across their range of 95%. (Premier Cru vineyards are rated from 90 to 99 and Grand Cru are 100 percent)

Champagne Gosset Grand Rosé is a blend of 12 Grand Cru and Premier Cru villages including Ambonnay, Aÿ, Bouzy, Chouilly, Verzenay, Villers-Marmery with 7% red wine from Bouzy & Ambonnay. This rosé has a high percentage of Chardonnay, which creates freshness and precision, complemented by Pinot Noir vinified as both white and red base wines. The red wines are derived from different Champagne crus and are vinified and blended to obtain a
very fine and crunchy fruit. Bottled at the end of the spring following the harvest. 4 years minimum ageing in the cellars. The dosage is adjusted with precision to preserve the balance between freshness and fruit without masking the wine’s character and purity. After disgorgement, the bottles are returned to the cellars to rest for at least 6 months to allow the wine to smoothly assimilate the dosage. Dosage 8 g/L.

The blend of grapes is Chardonnay (55%), Pinot Noir (37%), with 8% vinified as red wine.

Tasting Notes

APPEARANCE: Pale salmon-pink hue with bright,
sparkling highlights.

NOSE: The first nose reveals aromas of citrus and Gariguette strawberries, then, as the Champagne  arms up, subtle notes of red berries start to come through.

PALATE: The palate is well-built with a constant
balance between the tension of the acidity and the smoothness of the fruit. The finish softly wraps us in aromas of strawberries and raspberries. The palate
shows a nice roundness and lovely minerality

Food Pairing

Champagne Gosset Grand Rose Brut is perfect served as an aperitif or with a meal. Pair it with wild salmon, foie gras, veal cooked so that it is just pink, duck breast, Asian cuisine, linguine in red pesto and all types of
red fruit… in fruit salads, a bavarois, macaroons or trifle.
