Fifty Pounds Gin is a London Dry Gin, a hand-crafted small batch premium gin. Why Fifty Pounds Gin? In 1736, during the reign of George II of England, an annual levy of 50 pounds, known as the 1736 Gin Act, was imposed on those wishing to produce and sell gin. Only two distilleries agreed to pay this tax!

Fifty Pounds Gin is produced in a small and legendary distillery (Thames Distillers) located in the south-east of London, with a tradition of more than two centuries behind it. The method is carried out in a still manufactured by the legendary John Dore & Co Limited, in which a perfectly balanced, secret combination of herbs, spices, fruits and flowers, together with grain spirit (a neutral alcohol, previously distilled four times to achieve a greater purity) is distilled. The gin is made using a centuries old method called “Batch Process Distillation”, which Fifty Pounds feel this is the purest and most efficient way of obtaining the finest gin spirit. It is a special blend of herbs, spices, fruits and flowers including:

Juniper Berries – Croatia
Coriander Seeds – Middle East
Orange & Lemon Peel – Spain
Angelica Root – Europe
Savory – France
Liquorice Powder – Italy
Grains of Paradise – Africa

On distillation the “heads” and “tails” of the distillation are discarded and only the “heart” is used. It is then filtered three times, perfectly balanced with de-mineralised pure spring water and four times distilled grain spirit alcohol and bottled at 43.5% abv.

Fifty Pounds Gin is distilled in single batches and produced in small quantities in order to preserve its quality. A strikingly smooth small batch distilled classic London Dry Gin. Presented in a very stylish tapered green bottle, each bottle bears the individual distillation batch number, together with the year it was distilled.
