Austrian wine has increased greatly in popularity in recent years. The majority of their wines are white with approximately only 20% of their vineyards given over to red wine (using varietals such as Blauer Zweigelt and Blaufrankish). The most famous of the Austrian white varietals is Gruner Veltliner which produces racy, fruity and spicy wines some of which can be aged for a number of years. Riesling and Chardonnay are also grown.
Dessert wines from Austria are very highly regarded, especially those from Neusiedlersee area. From this area, we stock two wines from Sepp Moser - a Chardonnay Trockenbeerenauslese (also known as TBA) and a Weissburgunder Beerenauslese.
