The Loire Valley is known as The Garden of France and is home to such historic towns as Saumur, Angers, Orleans, Tours and Chinon. Almost all styles of wine are made in the Loire from crisp, dry whites through to dessert wines and even sparkling red wines. Some of the most famous wines are the crisp and dry Muscadet (the best of which are labelled Sur Lie such as Muscadet Henri Poiron's Domaine Manoir) which are a traditional match for oysters and shellfish. The other very well-known white wines are the Sauvignon Blanc based Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé. There is also a lot of Chenin Blanc used for wines such as Coteaux du Layon or Vouvray which are made in a variety of styles. The sparkling wines of Saumur are highly regarded and one of the best producers is Bouvet-Ladubay who makes a range of wines including his sparkling red Rubis. Red wines, such as Chinon and St. Nicholas de Bourgeuil, tend to be on the lighter side and are often served chilled.
