Glenmorangie Ealanta is the latest Private Edition whisky release from Glenmorangie. Ealanta is the Gaelic word for skilled and ingenious. It follows on from the Sonnalta PX finished whisky and the Finealta, a recreation of a blend made in 1903 for The Savoy Hotel in London, and the only Glenmorangie whisky with some peated malt in it.
The most recent creation from Glenmorangie’s Master Distiller, Dr Bill Lumsden, is aged in the finest virgin oak casks (heavily charred) made from slow-growing American white oak sourced from the northern slopes of the Missouri Mark Twain Forest. Glenmorangie Ealanta is a 19 year old 1993 vintage whisky bottled in 2012 at a strength of 46% vol. Dr Lumsden travelled to the Ozark Mountains in Missouri in the 1990s looking for the finest oak to produce casks for a very special whisky. The porous oak was air-dried for 2 years and not seasoned with any other whisky. This means the Ealanta extracts the maximum flavours from the wood giving an incredible taste, and with careful ageing, great smoothness.
Nose – Toffee, butterscotch, vanilla, and a curious hint of stewed fruits. Classic Glenmorangie mentholic top-note, interwoven with an unusual nuttiness, reminiscent of Brazil nuts in toffee.
Taste -Candied orange peel, sugar coated almonds, sweet vanilla and marzipan.
