Madeira Day 2016 Wine Tasting
We are stretching this over 2 days this year!
Friday 18th November 4.30pm until 6.30pm
Saturday 19th November 10am until 6pm
Free of charge @ Fareham Wine Cellar
Pop into the shop between either of the times above to try a couple of fantastic Madeiras from Barbeito and some traditional dark and spicy Madeiran Bolo de Mel cake from the Original Buxton Pudding Co. Don’t forget to get involved with social media and the hashtag #MadeiraDay.
We are showing the following Madeiras:
Barbeito Rainwater – a fantastic medium dry Madeira that it equally at home with sweet and savoury dishes. It has a pale golden, youthful colour. The nose has aromas of nuts, almonds, orange peel and spicy notes. The palate shows a touch of sweetness with very good acidity, meaning that none of the sweetness is cloying at all. It has a very enjoyable, clean, long and nutty finish.

Barbeito Single Harvest 2004 – a brand new bottling of 100% Tinta Negra Mole from 2004. It has aromas of toasted wood notes, sultanas, honey, dried flower, caramelized citrus in a smoky background. Smooth texture, bittersweet taste with an elegant and seductive palate. Spiced, long fresh finish. Excellent as an aperitif. Accompanies well olives, toasted almonds and cheese. Very good with starters such tapas and pates.
Madeira Day is a campaign to spread the word about quality Madeira wines. Now in its third year, Madeira Day started as Madeira Saturday in 2014. It is organised by Vinhos Barbeito and their UK importer, Portuguese wines specialist, Raymond Reynolds Ltd.
