About Mossburn
Mossburn Distillers and Blenders is an exciting new Scotch Whisky project owned by Marussia Beverages and we are privileged to have Bruce Perry, who is one of the directors of Mossburn as well as a member of the blending panel, come and tell us all about their new project and show some of their current bottlings for tasting.
Mossburn Distillers is a brand new project. It is the first new distillery to be built in the Borders for over 180 years. The first phase of development is construction of the Jedhart Distillery, a small distillery featuring three copper stills, five 5,000 square meter warehouse for pallets and casks and a small café. The second phase is construction of the Mossburn Distillery and visitor centre, a large production facility with the capacity to produce 25 million litres of spirit per year.
Obviously building a whisky distillery and waiting for whisky to come online (the spirit has to be aged for at least 3 years before it can even be called whisky) is a long term project. So, in the meantime, Mossburn have started the ball rolling by bottling a small collection of single malt whiskies and two blended malts, an Island and Speyside, with bespoke cask bills.

Not content with these distilleries, Mossburn is also developing the Torabhaig Distillery on the Isle of Skye, the second distillery there after Talisker, and Bruce will bring some of the Torabhaig new make spirit for tasting. Bruce is also involved in an exciting new Japanese Whisky project called Hatozaki from the Kaikyo Whisky Distillery and I am sure he can be persuaded to tell us a bit about this too!
