Lucky enough to try some of the newly launched Pusser's Rum 15 Year Old blend this afternoon. Previously it had some Trinidadian rum in, it is now 100% Guyanese.
Here are my tasting notes:
"Pusser’s 15 Year Old Rum is a good, clear, dark golden brown colour. The nose is aromatic with fruity aromas of sweet candied peel hints of orange citrus fruit and some other fruity, ester-y notes. There are spicy nuances of nutmeg, white pepper, hints of brown sugar and caramel with a mellow, oaky rancio notes and a touch of vanilla the extended barrel ageing. On the palate there are lots of dark flavours reminiscent of liquorice, coffee, mocha, rancio and black molasses. There are also notes of confit plum, red berry (perhaps sloe or strawberry jam) fruit which adds complexity to the dark character. It is big soft, round and mellow on the palate with an initial sweetness however the finish is quite dry. The lingering finish demonstrates more spicy oak and peachy / apricot flavours. This is very different to the old bottling which was a lot sweeter with more fruity notes. This darker and drier, a much more serious rum than before."
I am sure many of you know about the superb Fort Gin from PortsmouthDistillery that came out just before Christmas but did you know that they also released a white rum?
I have just managed to get it up on the website. It is perfect style of rum for mojitos or to be served over ice with a wedge of lime. Here are my tasting notes:
"The 1968 White Rum is a clear, colourless white rum. The nose is aromatic with herbal, grassy notes and dried fruits. There are also aromas of white flowers, a hint of orange citrus and caramel. On the palate the rum has a silky soft mouthfeel with fruity character and more herbal flavours. Initially this appears dry but there is just a touch of sweetness and a bit or warmth on the finish"
