12 Linajes Verdejo, DO Rueda

Description

12 Linajes Verdejo is a white wine made in the Rueda Denominacion d’Origen in Spain. It is produced by Vinedos Y Bodegas Gormaz which is part of Hispano Bodegas.

Hispano Bodegas is a group of three like-minded wineries who united to form a small group selling wines from three of Spain’s most famous wine regions:  Rioja, Ribera del Duero and Rueda. The group consists of Bodegas Valdelacierva in Rioja, Vinedos Y Bodegas Gormaz in Ribera del Duero and Bodegas Grande Winery in Rueda. There is also a rogue outlier in the form of Zelos Albarino from Galicia. The group has three main tenets: absolute respect for the vineyard and the terroir to produce the very best grapes to begin with, use of modern technology with respect to the traditions of the past and careful barrel selection in the winery. Their aim is to produce high-quality, terroir driven wines. It is 100% Spanish owned.

12 Linajes Verdejo is made by Bodegas Garci Grande which was founded in 1989. The winery sits on the site of an old cellars dating back to the 14th century and is surrounded by 79 hectares of vineyards. Rueda DO is located in north west Spain. The grapes are sourced from selected vineyards in La Nava del Rey situated at between 700 and 800m on stony, well-draining soils rich in calcium and magnesium. The grapes are harvested at night to ensure that they arrive at the winery in best condition. At the winery the grapes undergo a period of maceration prior to fermentation at a temperature of 8-12 ºC for 4-8 hours in order to get the full extraction of aromas. The wine then undergoes a fermentation at a controlled temperature of 16ºC for 10-15 days. The wine is then stirred together with its own lees in order to achieve the characteristic smoothness and persistence of this wine.
