Description

Baron de L Pouilly Fume is de Ladoucette’s Grande Cuvee and is considered by many to be, quite simply, the best Pouilly Fume the Loire has to offer.

The vineyards of de Ladoucette are the largest and the most famous vineyards of Pouilly Fume and they have been owned by the Comte Lafond and de Ladoucette families since 1787 when Comte Lafond purchased the estate from the illegitimate daughter of the French king, Louis XV. The estate is currently owned by Baron Patrick de Ladoucette, a descendant of the Comte Lafond. Baron de L Pouilly Fume is 100% Sauvignon Blanc sourced from de Ladoucette’s Le Desert, La Fontaine, La Belle Vue, La Crois and Les Bleus vineyards. These vineyards have an average age of 40 years old and are considered to be some of the finest that in the region. The Sauvignon Blanc grapes are harvested by hand, so they are in optimum condition and freshness when they reach the winery at Chateau du Nozet which is no more than 6 minutes any of the above vineyards.

Baron de L Pouilly Fume is made from only the free-run juice, whereby only the juice released by the weight of the grapes themselves is used. This is considered be the highest quality juice available. The parcels from each vineyard are vinified separately and the wine is left to mature on the lees for 3 to 6 months. Finally the parcels are blended to make the final assemblage and the wine is then left to rest on the lee, with lees stirring, in glass tiled vats for eight to ten months. The wine is then bottled after 2 years in the cellar of the Chateau.

Unlike many other other Sauvignon Blancs, Baron de L Pouilly Fume has the cellaring potential to gracefully age for 5 to 10 years and longer.

A world-class white wine, and served at Elton John’s wedding no less!

Suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

Tasting Notes

On the nose it is a harmonious blend of strength and freshness with orange peel, grapefruit, beeswax and floral hints. On the palate the fruit is full and elegant showing a mineral complexity combined with herbaceous fruit and zesty acidity. The length is extraordinary and makes Baron de L one of the finest expressions of Sauvignon Blanc.
