Description

Briottet Liqueur de Poire Williams is a pear liqueur made by Edmond Briottet in Dijon, France. For those familiar with Pear Eaux de Vie or brandy, this is a much sweeter, milder drnik.

Maison Briottet is a family business, founded in 1836, and has been run by the 6th generation of the Briottet family, Claire and Vincent, since 2014. The Maison is located in the centre of the town of Dijon in the Burgundy wine-growing region. Originally, the family were negociants of Burgundy wine, involved with ageing, blending, bottling and selling the wines. Following the development, and massive popularity of the Blanc Cassis Aperitif (white wine with Crème de Cassis also known as a Kir), in the 1900s, the company progressively focused its activities on producing fruit crèmes, liquors, brandies and Marcs de Bourgogne.

Maison Briottet maintains a very high level of quality. It is the selection of the ripest fruit, locally sourced where possible, from the most suitable cultivars that provides for the finest flavours. The first step on the ladder in the process is contracting the right growers to produce the finest, best quality, ripe fruit. Then, at the headquarters, the fruits undergo carefully observed maceration with very pure neutral alcohol and blending with the correct proportion of sugars to achieve the balance between fruit flavour, sweetness, acidity and alcohol to create top of the range crèmes and liqueurs.

Briottet Liqueur de Poire Williams is made from William Pears (known as Bartlett pears in the USA) from the Rhone Valley which are picked at full maturity, in late October, then macerated with sugar for about six weeks. The resultant liquid is then distilled and aged prior to release.

Tasting Notes

Clear, golden color that is reminiscent of ripe pears. It has a slightly syrupy consistency. The aroma of Briottet Liqueur de Poire William is delicate and sweet, with notes of fresh pear and a hint of floral undertones. There is a subtle warmth and spiciness that adds complexity and depth. Rich and sweet, with a distinct pear flavor that is both juicy and slightly tart. The sweetness is well-balanced and not cloying,

To Serve

Drink Briottet Liqueur de Poire William neat or over ice as an after dinner drink. It is also a great match for any apple-based desserts, or poured over vanilla ice cream.

Try in a Pear Martini

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz Briottet Liqueur de Poire William
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • Sliced pear, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a shaker filled with ice, combine the vodka, Briottet Liqueur de Poire William, lime juice, and simple syrup.
  2. Shake well until chilled.
  3. Strain the mixture into a chilled martini glass.
  4. Garnish with a slice of pear and serve.
