Description

Briottet Liqueur de Rhubarbe is a fantastically fruity and tangy rhubarb liqueur made in Dijon, France.

Maison Briottet is a family business, founded in 1836, and has been run by the 6th generation of the Briottet family, Claire and Vincent, since 2014. The Maison is located in the centre of the town of Dijon in the Burgundy wine-growing region. Originally, the family were negociants of Burgundy wine, involved with ageing, blending, bottling and selling the wines. Following the development, and massive popularity of the Blanc Cassis Aperitif (white wine with Crème de Cassis also known as a Kir), in the 1900s, the company progressively focused its activities on producing fruit crèmes, liquors, brandies and Marcs de Bourgogne.

Maison Briottet maintains a very high level of quality. It is the selection of the ripest fruit, locally sourced where possible, from the most suitable cultivars that provides for the finest flavours. The first step on the ladder in the process is contracting the right growers to produce the finest, best quality, ripe fruit. Then, at the headquarters, the fruits undergo carefully observed maceration with very pure neutral alcohol and blending with the correct proportion of sugars to achieve the balance between fruit flavour, sweetness, acidity and alcohol to create top of the range crèmes and liqueurs.

Briottet Liqueur de Rhubarbe is made from a 2 month maceration of green and red rhubarb, prior to sweeteing, which gives this rhubarb liqueur its unique flavour and light pink colour.

Tasting Notes

Briottet Liqueur de Rhubarbe has a strong, sweet aroma, with notes of fresh rhubarb being most prominent. Sweet, tangy taste that is reminiscent of freshly baked rhubarb pie. It has a distinct rhubarb flavor that is both fruity and tart, with a subtle sweetness that balances out the acidity. There may also be hints of other fruit flavors, such as strawberry or raspberry. Lingering finish that is both sweet and tart, with a pleasant fruitiness that remains on the palate.

To Serve

A versatile liqueur that can be enjoyed on its own or used to add a unique flavor to cocktails. It pairs particularly well with gin, vodka, or sparkling wine, and can be used to make a variety of drinks, from fruity spritzers to more complex, herbaceous cocktails.

Try in a Rhubarb and Gniger Fizz.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz Briottet Liqueur de Rhubarbe
  • 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz ginger syrup
  • Soda water
  • Rhubarb and ginger slice, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Fill a shaker with ice.
  2. Add the vodka, Briottet Liqueur de Rhubarbe, lime juice, and ginger syrup to the shaker.
  3. Shake well until chilled.
  4. Strain the mixture into a highball glass filled with ice.
  5. Top with soda water and stir gently.
  6. Garnish with a slice of fresh rhubarb and a slice of fresh ginger, if desired.
