Briottet Liqueur de Thé Vert Hibiscus is a rather unusual green tea and hibiscus liqueur made in Dijon, France.

Maison Briottet is a family business, founded in 1836, and has been run by the 6th generation of the Briottet family, Claire and Vincent, since 2014. The Maison is located in the centre of the town of Dijon in the Burgundy wine-growing region. Originally, the family were negociants of Burgundy wine, involved with ageing, blending, bottling and selling the wines. Following the development, and massive popularity of the Blanc Cassis Aperitif (white wine with Crème de Cassis also known as a Kir), in the 1900s, the company progressively focused its activities on producing fruit crèmes, liquors, brandies and Marcs de Bourgogne.

Maison Briottet maintains a very high level of quality. It is the selection of the ripest fruit, locally sourced where possible, from the most suitable cultivars that provides for the finest flavours. The first step on the ladder in the process is contracting the right growers to produce the finest, best quality, ripe fruit. Then, at the headquarters, the fruits undergo carefully observed maceration with very pure neutral alcohol and blending with the correct proportion of sugars to achieve the balance between fruit flavour, sweetness, acidity and alcohol to create top of the range crèmes and liqueurs.

Briottet Liqueur de Thé Vert Hibiscus is made by macerating gree tea and hibiscus flowers in very pure neutral alcohol, and then blending the infusion with the right amount of fine sugar to achieve the best balance of fruit, sweetness and acidity. Green tea is obviously a common drink and hibiscus flowers are used extensively in West Africa in sauces, jams and a sweet, red drink called bissap. A very unusual, but not completely bonkers combination of two pretty on trend flavours.

Tasting Notes

Briottet Liqueur de Thé Vert Hibiscus ha s vibrant light pink colour. Fresh and floral, with pronounced notes of hibiscus and green tea. There are also hints of fruit and spice that add complexity and depth. complex and layered, with the flavors of green tea and hibiscus taking center stage. It has a subtle sweetness that is well-balanced and not cloying.

To Serve

Perfect for sipping on its own, adding depth and complexity to cocktails, or as a essential ingredient in desserts.

Hibiscus Green Tea Fizz

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz gin
  • 1 oz Briottet Liqueur de Thé Vert Hibiscus
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • Club soda
  • Lemon twist and hibiscus flower, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a shaker filled with ice, combine the gin, Briottet Liqueur de Thé Vert Hibiscus, lemon juice, and simple syrup.
  2. Shake well until chilled.
  3. Strain the mixture into a highball glass filled with ice.
  4. Top with club soda and stir gently.
  5. Garnish with a lemon twist and a hibiscus flower and serve.
