Description

Briottet Liqueur de Violette is a violet liqueur from Dijon, France and is the essential ingredient for the Aviation Cocktail. It is a very pretty violet colour.

Maison Briottet is a family business, founded in 1836, and has been run by the 6th generation of the Briottet family, Claire and Vincent, since 2014. The Maison is located in the centre of the town of Dijon in the Burgundy wine-growing region. Originally, the family were negociants of Burgundy wine, involved with ageing, blending, bottling and selling the wines. Following the development, and massive popularity of the Blanc Cassis Aperitif (white wine with Crème de Cassis also known as a Kir), in the 1900s, the company progressively focused its activities on producing fruit crèmes, liquors, brandies and Marcs de Bourgogne.

Maison Briottet maintains a very high level of quality. It is the selection of the ripest fruit, locally sourced where possible, from the most suitable cultivars that provides for the finest flavours. The first step on the ladder in the process is contracting the right growers to produce the finest, best quality, ripe fruit. Then, at the headquarters, the fruits undergo carefully observed maceration with very pure neutral alcohol and blending with the correct proportion of sugars to achieve the balance between fruit flavour, sweetness, acidity and alcohol to create top of the range crèmes and liqueurs.

The violet is one of the first flowers to herald the Spring and is common throughout temperate Europe, Briottet Liqueur de Violette is made by macerating fresh violet flowers in pure alcohol prior to sweetening to make this superb violet liqueur.

Tasting Notes

Briottet Creme de Violette is a deep, vibrant purple color that is reminiscent violet flowers. The liqueur has a strong, sweet floral aroma, with notes of violet being most prominent. Sweet, floral taste that is both delicate and complex. Viscous and slightly syrupy, with a smooth mouthfeel. Lingering floral finish, with a hint of sweetness that remains on the palate.

To Serve

Can be used to add a floral dimension to cocktails. It is also delicious when sipped on its own, served chilled or over ice. Try in an Aviation Cocktail.

Aviation Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 oz gin
  • 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz maraschino liqueur (or French Marasquin)
  • 1/4 oz creme de violette

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice.
  2. Shake well until chilled.
  3. Strain the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass.
  4. Garnish with a lemon twist or a cherry, if desired.
