Castello della Rosa Bianco is an IGT Vigneti delle Dolomiti (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) wine from the Trentino wine growing region located in the far north east of Italy.
Orion Wines is a company created to bring together interesting wines from small growers and wineries from all over Italy. The company was created by Luca Pomaro and winemaker Alessandro Michelon and Orion Wines retains complete control over the vineyards and growers they work with. The idea is to produce wines from indigenous grapes that express the typicity of the particular region where they are grown.
Castello della Rosa Bianco is only produced in the best vintages and then only in very limited quantities. It is an interesting and unusual blend of 85% Muller Thurgau and 15% Riesling. Muller Thurgau is a grape variety created by Hermann Muller in Switzerland 1882 and is a crossing of Riesling and Madeleine Royale. It is planted throughout Europe, Australasia and North America and still remains the second most planted grape variety in Germany after riesling. The Muller Thurgau grapes are sourced from Castello della Rosa’s 4 hectare “Castelalto” vineyard whilst the Riesling comes from the 3 hectare “Tovi” vineyard. Both are locatred in the Valle di Cembra, a prestigious grape growing area, and the vines have n average age of 35 years old. The two grape varieties are vinified separately. The grapes are de-stemmed, gently chilled and macerated in the press for 8 hours. After 8 hours the grapes are pressed and fermented in stainless steel vats. This takes approximately 8 to 10 days and left on the lees fora further 5 months. 15% of the wine is fermented and aged for approximately 60 days in new French barriques.
Castello della Rosa Bianco has a brilliant golden straw colour. The nose has aromas of fresh peaches, citrus fruit and flowers. It is pleasantly crisp on the palate and has an elegant acidity and a long and lingering finish.
Castello della Rosa Bianco is great to drink on its own or makes a a great partner to seafood, light pasta dishes and soft cheeses.
