Champagne Dom Perignon was the first prestige cuvée, an idea proposed by Englishman Laurence Venn. The first vintage of Dom Pérignon was 1921 and was only released for sale in 1936. Champagne Dom Perignon is named after the alleged creator of champagne, a 16th Century Benedictine monk called Pierre Pérignon. True to the ambition of Pierre Pérignon in the late 17th century, Chef de Cave Richard Geoffroy demands the exceptional: only an outstanding harvest is worthy of Dom Pérignon vintage champagne, the exclusive product of a single year. More than three centuries later, the House of Dom Pérignon perpetuates the visionary approach of its founder, widely considered the spiritual father of Champagne. The Champagne Dom Perignon Oenotheque Vintage 1998 P2 part of a series of special release of older vintages that are held back and aged in the cellars before very small quantities are released when considered at peak for drinking. P2 stands for “Plenitude 2”. Champagne does not age in a linear way but rather there are successive windows of drinking where the Champagne is showing really well. These windows are known as “Plenitudes”. The First Plénitude (in 2005) of Dom Pérignon Vintage 1998 was a model of balance. After a moment of weightlessness, the palate was awakened by a youthful energy. This is the second release, the second Plenitude or P2 as chosen by the Chef du Cave, at its peak of drinking. Champagne Dom Perignon Oenotheque Vintage 1998 P2 owes its intensity to its precision, paradoxically balancing yet embracing, chiselling without breaking, barely touching without ever hitting hard. Like any high-tech creation, it reveals itself in high definition. Presented in a very smart matt back aluminium gift box.
