Champagne Dom Perignon Plenitude 2 Vintage 2002 is an extra aged version of Dom Perignon, held back in the cellars for an extended period of maturation and released when it has developed into something a little more special than the standard Dom Perignon.

Dom Perignon is named after the French Benedictine monk Dom Perignon (1638-1715) who dedicated his life to studying wine-making techniques including blending of grapes to improve quality and the development of sparkling wines. The very first vintage of Dom Perignon was produced as early as the 1920s and 1930s but what we know know as Dom Perignon was not made commercially available until 1943 when Moet et Chandon Vintage Champagne was given an extra period of maceration and transferred to the famous 18th century-style bottles, similar to the ones used today.

2002 was a remarkable moment in Champagne’s history. With near-perfect growing conditions, it became widely regarded as the best year in the last three decades, culminating in an extraordinarily concentrated and creamy vintage from Dom Pérignon. Champagne Dom Perignon Plenitude 2 (or P2) is so called because Champagne does not age in a linear way but rather there are successive windows of drinking where the Champagne is showing really well, different phases of development. Each of these windows is known as a “Plenitude”. When Dom Perignon 2002 was first released (in its first Plentitude) is was precise, fresh and a model of balance. On its journey to P2, the 2002 has spent 15 years patiently ageing in Dom Pérignon’s cellars, until its transformation was complete. The wine’s long maturation on the lees filled the wine with a new energy and vitality and gifted the vintage an increased potential for ageing. Though it is perfect for drinking on release P2 will age gracefully for many years to come. The 2002 Vintage blend is approximately 50/50 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with a dosage of 4/5 g/L. Disgorged in 2017.

Released under the watchful eye of Dom Perignon Cellar Master Vincent Chaperon.
