Description

Champagne Taittinger Prelude Grands Cru is made from wines sourced from Champagne vineyards with only the top Grand Cru status and is made from only the first pressing of these grapes. A good proportion of reserve wine is used in the blend which can vary with vintage and Taittinger Prelude is aged for a minimum of 4 to 5 years on lees, sometimes longer. It is blend of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir sourced from the Cotes des Blancs (Avize, Le Mesnil sur Oger) and the Montagne de Reims area (Bouzy, Ambonnay) respectively. The Grand Cru fruit and the extended ageing period make this a rich, round and elegant Champagne. Dosage is 11.5 g/L.

Taittinger can trace its origins back to 1734 when it was founded by Jacques Fourneaux but the Taittinger family did not become involved until the company was purchased by Pierre Taittinger in 1931. Today the company is run by Pierre-Emmanual Taittinger and his son, Clovis (export director) and daughter Vitalie (artisitic director) both of whom are actively involved in the business. The company headquarters are in Reims, located above magnificent 4th Century Roman cellars which at one time belonged to the Benedictine monks of the abbey of St Nicaise – there are miles of tunnels cut into the chalk which are perfect for the slow but necessary ageing process involved in making this great Champagne.
