Champagne Veuve Clicquot Vintage Brut is the “biggest” Champagne from Veuve Clicquot, appreciated for its robust structure and outstanding aging potential and is a single vintage Champagne only released if the vintage is considered good enough.
In 1772, Philippe Clicquot founded a wine-making business under the name Clicquot. In 1798, his son François, who had taken over the family enterprise, married Barbe Nicole Ponsardin. At the time of François’ death in 1805, the young 27-year-old widow decided to continue her husband’s legacy. A woman of vision, she became the driving force behind the prestige and success of the brand, which in 1810 was renamed Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin. Ever in pursuit of excellence and innovation, in 1816 Madame Clicquot invented the riddling table with the aim of obtaining clarified champagnes of unrivalled quality. She became known by her contemporaries as the “Grand Dame of Champagne”, in recognition of her audacity and determination.
Champagne Veuve Clicquot Vintage Brut is balanced and full-bodied. Produced in small quantities in exceptional years, it reflects the best characteristics of the vintage as well as the quality of Veuve Clicquot’s top-rated vineyards. The Champagne Veuve Clicquot Vintage Brut 2004 is a blend of 61% Pinot Noir, 34% Chardonnay and 5% Pinot Meunier sourced from only premier and grand cru rated vineyards. The Pinot Noir wines are fruity and full-bodied; the Chardonnay wines show a lot of distinction, and the Meunier wines add a touch of gourmandise.
2008 was the first vintage whereby 5% of the wines were produced and aged in wooden casks from forests in Central France, from Allier and Vosges. The aim is to increase the complexity and aromatic richness of our Veuve Cliquot Vintage Champagnes. These cask-aged wines add some the spiciness to the blend with very lightly woody, vanilla and toasted aromas.
Dosage is 8 g/L.
