Chartreuse Elixir Vegetal de la Grande-Chartreuse Liqueur is a very strong and potent version of Green Chartreuse bottled at 69% and only available in 10cl bottles. Green Chartreuse is an ingredient that no bar would be complete without. With its bright green appearance and unususal taste it has developed something of a cult status amongst regular bar-goers. But it is, perhaps, its versatility that makes it so popular. As with all their Chartruese liqueurs, only three monks know the identity of the 130 plants, how to blend them and how to distill them into this world famous liqueur. They are also the only ones who know which plants they have to macerate to produce the natural green and yellow colours. And they alone supervise the slow ageing in oak casks.
Chartreuse Elixir Vegetal has been made since 1737 to a recipe set out in a secret manuscript given to the monks Maréchal d’Estrées in 1605. The ingredients are alcohol, sugar, plants and flowers and it can be served as a cordial, digestif, liqueur or very effective tonic.
Chartreuse Elixir Vegetal is presented in a small bottle in a wooden case which protects it from the light to make sure it stays in perfect condition.
