Chateau Branaire Ducru is a St Julien 4th growth (4ème Cru Classé) and is located opposite from Chateau Beychevelle, however, the vineyards are spread through the Saint Julien appellation. The vineyards cover some 51 hectares and the plantings are Cabernet Sauvignon (70%), followed by Merlot (22%), Cabernet Franc (4%) and Petit Verdot (4%). The vines have an average age of 35 years old. The wine is aged for 16 to 20 months in oak barrels (60 – 65% new).
