Chateau des Joualles is a small property in the St Emilion region owned by Eric Freylon who, until recently, was the owner of Chateau Lasségue (a St.Emilion grand cru). Chateau des Joualles was acquired by Vignobles Freylon in 1981 and they set about improving and renovating the property and installed a new modern winery. Whilst the Grangeotte Freylon and La Fleur de Joualles are both 60% Merlot / 40% Cabernet blends, Chateau de Joualles follows the vineyard planting and is a 70% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon blend. The grapes are sourced from vineyards with chalky clay / limestone soils.
The winemaking is a mixture of traditional and modern. The winery is equipped with thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks which allows good control over maceration and fermentation. The wine sees some oak aging.
