Description

Chateau Pavie is classified as 1er Grand Cru Classe in the St Emilion wine classification. In 2012 it was elevated to the first rank of the classification St Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classe (A) having been classified as a St Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classe (B) since 1954. It is one of only 4 Premier Grand Cru Classé (A) Chateaux – the others are Chateau Ausone, Chateau Angelus and Chateau Cheval Blanc. Chateau Pavie is owned by Gerard Perse who bought the estate form the Valette family in 1998. Perse is also the owner of Chateau Monbousquet and Chateau Pavie Decesse – both in St Emilion. Chateau Pavie consists of 42 hectares of vineyards, a lot of which were replanted in 1998. The vineyard is planted with 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The grand vin is aged in 80% new, French oak barrels for 18 to months but this can very from vintage to vintage. The blend for the Chateau Pavie 2008 is 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon
