Description

Chateau Pierrefitte is the second wine of Chateau Perron which is a 3.5 hectare estate located in Néac, a district of Lalande de Pomerol. The estate is owned by Michel Massonie and managed by his son, a young and very very talented winegrower. Michel Rolland is the consultant wine-maker. The vines are planted 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc, production is about 20,000 bottles per year.

Chateau Pierrefitte is a blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from vines with an average age of 55 years old. The harvest is done both manually and mechanically followed by sorting of the bunches at the vineyard (on a vibrating table with a Mistral grape sorting system). The wine is vinified in the traditional manner followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for approximately 12 months, 50% in used barriques and 50% in vat and then bottled two years after the date of harvest.

Tasting Notes

Chateau Pierrefitte is a ruby-coloured wine with an intense fruity-floral- scented nose. The palate has ripe red fruit, plums, hints of of vanilla and spice with a good tannic backbone. An elegant, medium-bodied wine with a beautiful richness.
