Chateau Semonlon is a red Bordeaux, bottled as a Haut Medoc, and is located in Avensan, near Margaux and very close to Chateau Citran.
The current owner is Olivier Dumora. The estate was established in 1950 by Mr Lagune, the great grand-father Olivier Dumora, and the estate has been in the hands of the family ever since. The family practises “Lutte raisonnée”, which is essentially as close as one can get to organic and biodynamic without the certification.
The vineyard area of Chateau Semonlon comprises 7 hectares, on soils composed of muddy gravel, large stones and small amounts of clay.. The vines planted are 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, old vines with an average age of 35 years old.
All harvesting is done by hand and traditional winemaking methods are used (fermentation in steel vats) and the wine is then aged for 1 year in seconf fill oak barrels.
Annual production is around 45,000 bottles.
The Haut Medoc appellation is located on the Left Bank of the Gironde Estuary and is renowned for producing some of Bordeaux’s finest and most sought-after wines. The region is known for its gravelly soil, which is ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and other grape varieties used in Bordeaux blends.
Chateau Semonlon is an elegant and supple wine with a good cabernet sauvignon fruit
intertwined with spicy notes and mellow and slightly woody tannins.
Drink with red meats, small game and mature cheeses.
