Description

Chateau Ste Michelle Cabernet Sauvignon made from predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from vineyards in the Columbia Valley.

Chateau Ste Michelle is the oldest winery in the Columbia Valley and was founded in 1954. It is located in Woodinville, Washington, near Seattle. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious wineries in the state and has played a significant role in the development of Washington State’s wine industry. The winery’s name is inspired by the company’s distinctive French chateau style headquarters. Chateau Ste. Michelle is known for producing a wide range of high-quality wines. They specialize in crafting wines from grapes grown in Washington State’s Columbia Valley and own 2,600 acres of sustainably farmed vineyards in Eastern Washington including Canoe Ridge Estate, Cold Creek Vineyard and Horse Heaven Vineyard. The winery is committed to sustainable vineyard practices that aim to minimize their impact on the environment and promote long-term vineyard health.

The grapes for Chateau Ste Michelle Cabernet Sauvignon are sourced from Columbia Valley vineyards in eastern Washington including the company’s Cold Creek, Canoe Ridge Estate and Indian Wells vineyards. The Columbia Valley vineyards lie in the rain shadow of the Cascade Mountains and receive just 6-8 inches of rainfall annually. The climate is characterised by warm, sunny days and cool evening temperatures create ideal conditions for intense aroma and flavor development in the ripening grapes.

After harvest grapes are destemmed and inoculated with various strains of yeast to maximize complexity. There is a gentle pump over during fermentation which helps to used to extract colour and flavour and produce soft, supple tannins. The wine is aged 12 months in 25% New French Oak, 8% New American Oak and 67% Neutral Oak.

The 2019 Chateau Ste Michelle Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of  82% Cabernet Sauvigon, 8% Syrah, 7% Merlot, 2% Malbec and 1% other red grapes varieties.
