Compass Box Peat Monster is a multi award-winning Blended Malt Whisky that is part of Compass Box Whisky’s core “Signature Series”. Compass Box is a small Scotch whisky company, devoted to making some of Scotlands premier whiskies through the art of blending. The founder and whiskymaker is John Glaser who chooses individual whisky casks from various distilleries which are then blended whiskies in small batches. More unusually the blended whiskies are recasked and undergo a secondary maturation for up to 24 months prior to bottling. Their whiskies have unusual names and the labels are contemporary in style; its all part of their vision: take a contemporary approach to a traditional product. Compass Box Peat Monster is a must for peat-heads and those who love big, rich smoky-peaty malt whiskies. Whilst it is not the peatiest or smokiest whisky, it has a lovely balance of smoky peat and rich, sweet characters.
Compass Box Peat Monster combines smoky and peaty whiskies from the South shore of Islay, some peated malt whisky from the Isle of Mull (there is only one distillery on Mull) and an unusally smoky Highland Malt whisky (a blend of three single Highland malts aged in Compass Box Whisky’s highly active new French oak hybrid barrels which brings some clove spice to the blend. The whiskies, apart from the last are all aged in refill hogsheads. The result is a complex, multilayered, balanced and very drinkable peaty malt. Bottled at 46%. Not chill filtered. Natural colour.
