Description

Domaine Bailly Reverdy Sancerre La Mercy Dieu Blanc is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc from the around the domaine’s vineyards with parcels of wine representing each of the three soil types from around the estate.

Domaine Bailly Reverdy was established in the 1950s by Bernard Reverdy. The business was continued by his two sons, Jean- Francois, who unfortunately died in 2005, and Franck who studied oenology at Bordeaux. Jean-Francois’ son Aurelian, Franck’s nephew, joined the family firm in 2005 after studying oenology in Montpellier and Beaune and working vintages in both New Zealand and Oregon. The domaine consists of around 23 hectares of vineyard planted with approximately 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Pinot Noir. The domaine is based in the village of Bué-en-Sancerre 5kms away from the village of Sancerre. Whilst not fully organic, the estate practices sustainable agriculture known as “La Lutte Raisonnée”, literally “the reasoned struggle”, which means they use minimal and less aggressive chemicals than other conventional growers. No mineral chemical fertilizers or herbicides are used and grass is allowed to grow between their vines.

The grapes for the Domaine Bailly Reverdy Sancerre La Mercy Dieu Blanc are hand-harvested and come from plots of vines representing the three “Sancerrois” soil types – Marl (Terre Blanches), clay / flint and very pebbly / limestone (Coteaux de Caillottes). Grapes undergo a primary selection in the vineyard and are then transferred to the winery where they are gently pressed with a cold settling of 12 to 24 hours prior to alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks.

La Mercy Dieu translates as “God’s Mercy”.

Also available in 37.5cl half bottles.
