Description

Domaine Dupre Bourgogne Pinot Noir is red Burgundy made by Jean-Christophe Dupré from his family vineyards located in the villages of Royer and Mancey.

Domaine Dupre was established in the 1950s as mixed farm with 3 hectares of vineyards. Eventually viticulture became the main part of the business since Jean-Christophe Dupré joined the business in 1990 and Vincent in 1994, the estate has now grown some 26 hectares of vineyards. Jean-Christophe says that he “plants his vines according to the soil”. There are 10 hectares of Chardonnay planted on the white marl soils of Mancey on a south/ southwest-facing slope. The Pinot Noir prefers the red earth of “Sous Borreau” on the slope, east of Royer.  There is also some Gamay is mainly planted on the deep clay-limestone soil of the Royer valley. Jean-Christophe Dupré is a great believer in “Viticulture raisonnée” (reasoned agricultur) and sustainability. He believes grass cover is very important between vine rows and only cuts this twice a year. This helps prevent erosion, maintains a healthy biodiversity, improves the soil structure and decreases the need for herbicides. Only organic fertilizers are used when necessary.

Domaine Dupre Bourgogne Pinot Noir is vinified in a traditional Burgundian way so that the wine has good ageing potential. After harvest the 100% Pinot Noir grapes are destemmed and undergo a period of maceration of 10-12 days. The wine is aged in French oak barrels, 20% of which are new, for 12 months  during which time two rackings are performed, including one blending. The bottles are stored for at least 6 months before being released for sale.

Domaine Dupre is part of Bourgogne de Vigne en Verre (BVV). BVV was created in 1981 as group of Burgundy domains with shared values who came together to market their wines. Today there are 35 members who own some 300 hectares of vineyards between them.
