Domaine Faiveley Mercurey La Framboisiere Mercurey La Framboisiere is a “monopole” wine made in the Cote Chalonnaise sub-region of Burgundy. A “monopole” wine is Burgundy is a wine from s single vineyard that is owned entirely by one wine producer. The Cote Chalonnaise wine growing sub-region is situated to the south of the Cote d’Or and Mercurey is widely regarded as the most important wine village in the region producing more wine that all other village appellations combined. 80% of wine production is Mercurey is red wine.

Domaine Faiveley was founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley and has passed through seven generations of the the family since then. The company headquarters can be found in Nuit St Georges and has been run since 2007 by Erwan Faiveley. Today the family owns over 120 hectares of vineyards in Burgundy including 10 hectares of grand cru vineyards, nearly 25 hectares of 1er cru vineyards and other vineyards including 68 hectares in the Cote Chalonnaise. Domaine Faiveley have owned vineyards in Mercurey since 1963 and now own 11 hectares of vineyards there. The La Framboisiere vineyard produces wines with real character and is one of Faiveley’s most highly reputed wines. The wines produced here tend to be a bit fuller than their neighbours.

The grapes for Domaine Faiveley Mercurey La Framboisiere are pressed and vinified at Faiveley’s state of the art winery in Mercurey but the wine is then moved the 19th century vaulted cellars in Nuit St Georges. The wine is aged for between 12 and 14 months in lightly toasted, fine grain French oak barrels. 100% Pinot Noir.

The village of Mercurey is named after the Roman god Mercury, the god of merchants and commerce and apparently there was once a temple erected in honour of the deity somewhere in the village.

Tasting Notes

Domaine Faiveley Mercurey La Framboisiere “Monopole” reveals a powerful, fruity nose combining rich notes of red and black fruits and a subtle hint of oak. La Framboisière offers a powerful palate dominated by crunchy red fruits. Its velvety tannins and exceptional length make it a pleasure to drink!

Food Pairing

Try with beef wellington, game stew with chestnuts, capon with morel mushrooms, lemon and chocolate cake.
