Domaine Jones La Perle Rare Grenache Gris is a limited edition, single vineyard release made by Katie Jones in the South of France at her winery in the village of Tuchan near Maury. This joins the superb Domaine Jones La Perle Rare Syrah in La Perle Rare range.
The wine-making philosophy at Domaine Jones is to employ traditional, down–to-earth farming methods and innovative winemaking techniques to capture the characteristics of the terroir and the local area. Domaine Jones wines are only produced in very small quantities – this truly is boutique wine-making. Katie Jones has recently acquired some more vineyards in the village of Tuchan and many of are planted with low yielding old vines with some up to 100 years old. They vineyards are planted with a mix of different grape varieties, co-planted in the same vineyard in place, which was a common way of planting in the early part of last century.
Domaine Jones La Perle Rare Grenache Gris is made with grapes hand picked form one single vineyard in Tuchan. The vines were planted 60 years ago and it used to belong to Katie’s husband’s family. According to Katie “The vineyard is just on the outskirts of Tuchan and the vines are 60 years old. Jean Marc was thinking of replanting the vineyard until I offered to buy it off him. I am so glad I did !!” The wine is aged for 9 months in a small 300 litre French oak barrels and is rather Burgundian in style.
Only 1 barrel of Domaine Jones La Perle Rare Grenache Gris 2014 was produced.
