Description

Domaine Lasgraves 1978 Vintage Armagnac Baco is made at the small Domaine Lasgraves estate. Armagnac is the oldest spirit in the world, used as a medecine in former times it has been distilled and appreciated since 1411. But Armagnac is also a region, part of the southwest of France whose symbol is a vine-leaf, and is divided into three “sous-appellations” : Bas-Armagnac, Ténarèze and Haut-Armagnac. It is situated in the heart of the Bas Armagnac region which is often to be considered the best area for Armagnac. The Domaine has been in the same family for three generations and they still vinify and distill using traditional methods. After distillation the young, colourless spirit is transferred to new 420 litre oak barrels. It is then left to quietly age, in barrel, for 10 to 30 years. As the Armagnac ages the woody flavours gradually become more refined gaining aromas of vanilla, prune and rancio appears with its characteristic aromas of dried fruits and the degree of alcohol diminishes progressively as the alcohol evaporates (the “angel’s share”). The brandy turns a beautiful amber, then mahogany colour.

Domaine Lasgraves 1978 vintage Armagnac is made 100% from the little-known and increasingly rare Baco grape variety. It is Bottled at the higher than normal alcoholic strenght of 46% which gives more body and viscous mouthfeel.
