Description

Domaines Ott Clos Mireille Rosé is arguably the best Rosé wine from Provence and is certainly one of the top Rosé wines in the world.

Domaine Ott was established in 1912 by Marcel Ott, an Alsacien who dreamed of creating a great wine estate by the Mediterranean. The estate continued to be family-owned until it was bought out by Champagne Louis Roederer in 2004. Domaines Ott consists of three different estates in the Bandol and Cotes de Provence ACs and produces some of the most prestigious wines in the world. However, it is for their Rosé that the estate is arguably most famous for.

Today the estate is represented by Christian and Francois Ott and comprises Chateau de Selle and Clos Mireille in the Côtes de Provence appellation and Chateau Romassan in Bandol. Clos Mireille is a 41 hectare estate, acquired by the Ott family in 1935 and completely remodelled and replanted in the late 1930s. Clos Mireille is an ancient terrain well known for its mix of silica, clay and schist soils and the estate’s broad seafront location. The microclimate and the sea spray provide highly favourable conditions for white wines and the parcels used in the “blanc” slope down as far as the sea. The vines are levelled into espaliers to enable even tilling and planting and are pruned and trained using the double cordon method.

Domaines Ott Clos Mireille Rosé 2018 is a blend of Grenache 70%, Cinsault 14%, Syrah 7% and Rolle 9%. It is produced using the saignée method. The grapes are hand-picked and there is careful bunch sorting followed by a very gentle pressing and maturation in oak barrels and vats for 6 to 8 months.

Tasting Notes

Domaines Ott Clos Mireille Rosé is a very pale pink highlighted, depending on the vintage, with golden, orange and even vermilion tints. Its bouquet reveals fresh fruit (mango, melon) punctuated with lemony notes. On the palate, its freshness develops through citrus aromas around a resolutely mineral core before ending with a subtly persistent finish.

Food Pairing

Drink with all Mediterranean cuisine – particularly carpaccio and tartares.
