Dominus is the top red wine made at the Dominus Estate by the world-famous winemaker Christian Mouiex. Christian is the son of the equally famous wine merchant, producers and owner of Chateau Petrus (amongst others) from Bordeaux, J P Moueix, and fell in love with California whilst studying at David, University of California. He discovered the historic Napanook vineyard in the Napa Valley in 1981 and helped develop the vineyards until becoming the sole owner in 1995. 2003 will be remembered as a vintage with a very long growing season, one that continued into November for some blocks. The beautiful fall weather permitted the prolonged hang time, allowing the fruit to develop its complexity. The Dominus 2003 blend is 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. No Merlot was used in the blend this year. The wine is charismatic, with a Bordeaux-like style. Only 5600 cases produced.
